February meeting of the Marion Amateur Radio Club featured the program on QRP and QRPp by Lynn L. W8MLL and Bill F. NR8I. Showing the power in db gain of one S-unit is 4 times the power. So 4 watts to gain one S-Unit is 16 watts. These low power on qrp with cw can reach thousands of miles. Many times other operators has the massive tower and beam running over 600 watts. Take advantage of the opportunity. Showing equipment of qrp rigs, tunners, swr meters, and solar panel to charge batteries. Bill explained QRP and QRPp. QRP is power less than 5 watts. QRPp is power less than 1 watt. Also Bill showed his 10 contacts on 1/10 of a watt or 100 milliwatt.

KD8BKT in middle of food gathering (pic by known/will not tell)

The MARC December Meeting is our Christmas Party. We had a shorter business meeting. No contested election of Officers so a general vote to approve the officers was made and approved . Programn by Gene M (n8yrf) on towers. Highlight were manufactures of towers, Wind load and how it was calculated, manufactures have wind load calculated for their products. The Origination of the Fold over tower on the South end of club house. It was made by Kill Brothers in Delphos Ohio. They had a radiator and weld shop that developed to a IH dealership and making these tv towers. They then moved out of town in 1954 making grain box / gravity wagons. They believe they quite making the towers then or shortly after 1954. This makes these towers over 50 years old and many in good shape. Kill Brother last surviving sold out to competitor family ran farm equipment manufacture in 1991.

Food for the meeting was enjoyed by all and gift exchange followed. Everyone had a chance to pick from opened gifts. No one choose to do so. We were content with what we got the first time. If you were not there, you were missed and missed out.
